How do you find all the Bible texts in which Jesus says something to Peter? The most obvious strategy is to do a search for the words 'Jesus' and 'Peter'. If you search the NIV for "Jesus" and "Peter," it will yield 45 verses. That's not that many, and the results are very inaccurate:
- first, there are verses among them in which although the names appear, they are not even spoken;
- second, Jesus must have said a lot more to Peter than just what is shown in the search result;
- finally, those verses are missing where the writer does not use the name Peter, but the name Simon.
But our question was: how do you find all Bible texts in which Jesus says something to Peter. This is where the power of Logos comes in:
Here's the roadmap:
- open a search window;
- select the appropriate Search Template on the left side of the search window: 'One Person Speaks to Another Person';
- fill in then the names in: 'Jesus' for 'Speaker' and 'Peter' for 'Addressee';
- Logos then puts together the correct search: '{Speaker } INTERSECTS {Addressee }', so all you have to do is click 'Search';
- click on "Search.
And now Logos gives you a list of all words Jesus said to Peter!
Isn't this impressive? An interesting study next would be to compare the contents of Peter's letters with the teaching Peter received from Jesus.
